Research 101

InformeDesign is pleased to introduce a new feature to the Web site that will give you greater ease using the Research Summaries from our database and other research you find in your daily work. These on-line tutorials are in PDF format for small file size and printing consistency when downloading and printing. Also, each tutorial will be registered through ASID for continuing education credit. See the link on this page to access instructions and a form for submitting this tutorial for continuing education credits. Please contact InformeDesign at if you have any questions about this tutorial by email at informedesign@umn.edu or call (612) 624-4797 if you have any questions about the continuing education credit process.

Research 101: An Introduction to Research
This on-line tutorial addresses research basics including concepts, vocabulary, and examples. Whether your design process uses research findings from academic studies or product information from manufacturer's studies, it is important to know how to use these results and what difference they can make to your practice. This tutorial will:

  • refresh your research vocabulary
  • increase your knowledge about research methods, and
  • provide you with the rationale for use of research-based findings in design solutions.

The tutorial has been divided into three parts for ease of use. Be sure to take them at your own pace, but remember that all three parts must be reviewed to apply for the continuing education credits (.3 CEUs). Hope you find this addition to InformeDesign helpful.
